Community Involvement

Community Involvement

Welcome to WBN’s Community Involvement page!

The goal of our WBN community involvement is two-fold:

1) To increase our involvement and have a greater impact as an organization.

2) To present meaningful and rewarding opportunities to our members.

Do you have information about a volunteer opportunity that you think our members would be interested in? Please send the information for review to Diane DeMarco at

WBN to Sponsor Chamber’s S.H.E. Week

The Women’s Business Network will be a sponsor of the Frederick County Chamber of Commerce’s Women in S.H.E. Week August 26 – 30.  This inaugural event will feature a week of events celebrating the Strength, Heart and Equality of women in Frederick County!

One of my goals for WBN this year is to participate in community activities that support women-related events and causes,” noted Jean Wright, WBN President. “When we spread the word about how we inform, encourage, and support women in business, WBN will continue to grow,” she added.

S.H.E. Week will kick off with a luncheon at the Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ on Tuesday, August 27, at 11:30 a.m. with the theme of “Taking Your Passion to the Next Level!”

If you’re a woman with a vision, or you just like hanging out with visionaries, you’re invited to attend. The program will begin with an inspiring interview with Karlys Kline, who started The Women’s Giving Circle of Frederick County in 2006.

Another highlight of the week will be “An inspiring panel of Frederick County’s female trailblazers” on Wednesday, August 28, at 5:00 pm at Hood College’s Whitaker Campus Center.

Panelists include:

  • Major General Linda Singh, Adjutant General | Maryland Army National Guard
  • Jan Gardner, County Executive | Frederick County Government
  • Cheryl Ciioffi, COO | Frederick Regional Healthcare System
  • Monica Pearce, Owner | Tenth Ward Distillery

The moderator will be Elizabeth Burmaster, President of Frederick Community College.  Hors d’oeuvres and beverages will be served.

Goodwill of Monocacy Valley Second Runway and 50th Anniversary

This was the fashion event of the season! SECOND RUNWAY featured a red carpet entrance, an on-site Goodwill Pop-Up Shop, a chance to bid on fabulous auction items, gourmet food and spirits from local businesses, music, and a high energy runway fashion show, including models and stylists with “familiar” faces from the community

This year’s theme, the Golden Gala, celebrated Goodwill’s 50 years of service to Frederick and Carroll Counties, and raised funds for their new Veteran Services Program and relocation of their workforce development center.

Thank you so much to those who volunteered and attended!
